Gary and Sandy Jones of Hawkins Poe Real Estate Services have created a life and career built on passion, discipline, and a strong sense of community. Their story began at Mercer Island High School in 1984, when they first met. From there, both pursued unique paths before ultimately coming together as a dynamic real estate team serving Gig Harbor and its surrounding areas.
Sandy earned her degree in English Literature and Education from Florida State University, and then taught both high school and middle school. She spent 11 years as a flight attendant with Alaska Airlines, later earning her pilot's license and working as a flight instructor at Boeing Field. Those years refined her ability to connect with people, adapt quickly, and remain calm in stressful situations—skills that now serve her clients in real estate. When the couple returned to Gig Harbor in 2005 after living in Castle Rock, Colorado, Sandy officially began her career in real estate, combining service and professionalism with her deep love for the community.
Gary’s background followed a different but equally disciplined track. To put himself through school, he commercially fished in Alaska before graduating from Central Washington University with a degree in Aeronautical Engineering. He flew for ERA Aviation and later joined the Idaho Air National Guard, serving 14 years as an F-4G pilot. During his service, he completed 18 combat missions, received an Air Medal, and developed the mission-oriented mindset and attention to detail that continue to guide his work today. He later became a Captain with United Airlines, but in 2014, he transitioned to real estate, joining Sandy full-time. “We love living here, and we love selling real estate here,” Sandy says. “There’s nowhere else we’d rather be, and helping people discover the Gig Harbor lifestyle is incredibly rewarding.”
Their combined backgrounds form the foundation of The Jones Team. Having lived in Gig Harbor for over 20 years, they are familiar with the neighborhoods, schools, waterfront areas, and local market trends inside and out. Clients benefit from their data-driven analysis, strategic negotiations, and boutique-style service that prioritizes people above all else. “Listening is key,” Gary explains. “We want clients to feel understood and supported. Gary’s years in the military shaped his values of loyalty and service, which he and Sandy now extend through their support of veteran-focused organizations. The Jones Team proudly supports the Permission to Start Dreaming Foundation and has recently connected with Warrior PATHH, a program that helps veterans turn adversity into strength. “As a disabled veteran, giving back is important to me,” Gary says. “These organizations make a real difference.” Veterans Day holds special significance for the couple as they honor friends lost and reflect on the sacrifices of others who have served.
Life in Gig Harbor continues to inspire their work. Surrounded by water, they spend free time boating, crabbing, and soaking in views of Mt. Rainier and the evergreens. They’re grateful to call this community home and believe their clients share the same sense of belonging. “This is a truly remarkable place to live,” Sandy adds. Their commitment extends beyond the sale, as many clients become lifelong friends. They often gather past clients together for appreciation events and casual get-togethers, reinforcing the sense of community that defines their work.
Together, Gary and Sandy bring complementary strengths to the table. Sandy’s background in teaching, aviation, and customer service complements Gary’s precision and leadership, which he developed during his years as a fighter pilot and airline captain.
