Opened in January of 2023, the owners of Great Match Painting & Wall Covering bring a lifetime of experience to the clients they serve. Gary Sandvig is a fourth-generation painter, beginning his career in the Seattle area under his father and grandfather, with more than 30 years of contractor painting experience. Co-owner and wife Mallory works behind the scenes, where she handles the management of the office and customer care.
Both born and raised on Vashon Island, the couple decided to settle in Port Orchard four years ago due to the small-town feel similar to Vashon “but without the ferry ride,” Mallory laughs.
“When Gary and I first met, he was working in Seattle. Even after purchasing our home here in Port Orchard, he continued to commute five days a week,” Mallory reflects. “The desire to start our own company stemmed from the want to have more time at home with our three children. Gary would say that I inspired him by wanting to handle the administrative part of our business while also being a stay-at-home mom and homemaker.”
Serving Gig Harbor, Fox Island, Tacoma, Vashon Island and Kitsap County, Great Match Painting & Wall Covering provides their clients with free estimates, residential and commercial interior and exterior painting, wallpaper removal and installation — they are one of the few traditional wallpaper hangers in the area — as well as pressure washing and floor coating. “There isn’t any project we aren’t willing to tackle,” affirms Gary.
Exuding experience, quality and craftsmanship, Gary and Mallory strive to do their very best to accommodate the clients’ needs any way they can. “It is so rewarding to see the happiness it brings our customers when they see their project brought to life,” Mallory smiles. “It’s amazing what a paint job can do!”
Mallory and Gary pride themselves on their attention to providing superior customer service while working hard to nurture long-lasting relationships within the communities they serve. The couple are members of the Port Orchard Chamber and are always looking for other ways to be a part of the community. “In 2023, we launched our first annual coloring contest for kids in the community,” Mallory shares. “We partnered with The Candy Shoppe in downtown Port Orchard and gave out lots of fun prizes.”
