Caring for Growing Families Close to Home

Caring for Growing Families Close to Home

When Franciscan Medical Clinic opened in the Milgard Medical Pavilion in December, it marked the culmination of the St. Anthony Hospital campus vision to bring comprehensive, quality health care to this side of the bridge. The community campaign that began it all resulted in the opening of Gig Harbor’s own St. Anthony Hospital in March 2009. Now, Franciscan Medical Clinic brings no-hassle, supportive and personalized family care to the mix of services on the St. Anthony campus.

“Supporting a community’s health and wellness begins with excellent primary care,” says David Negron, director of clinic operations for CHI Franciscan.

Providers at the new clinic include Pierre Andre B. Dalumpines, MD; Wajahat A. Khan, MD; and Kimberly Roberts, DNP, ARNP. Each specializes in family medicine, providing comprehensive preventive care as well as expert chronic disease management for conditions such as diabetes and asthma. Services also include acute care for sudden illness and athletic and other injuries.

“The best part about family medicine is getting to know our patients, over time and in the context of their families,” says Dr. Dalumpines. “We get to build relationships over years, watch families grow and help people age well so they can enjoy their lives to the fullest.”

Roberts agrees. “We are honored to provide care over the full spectrum of life, from newborn care to senior care,” she says. “We see—and treat—most everything. When a patient needs more specialized care, we have the resources of St. Anthony Hospital and CHI Franciscan at our fingertips.”

The new clinic, part of Franciscan Medical Group, offers state-of-the-art facilities and equipment designed to provide optimal comfort and support for every patient. Hallways and exam rooms easily accommodate wheelchairs and the clinic is equipped with a wheelchair scale. The spacious procedure room doubles as an exam room for entire family care. The clinic thoughtfully includes the most advanced support options for the visually and hearing impaired, including the Martti communication device.

“With the Martii, we use an iPad to provide immediate facetime support for our patients who are deaf, hard of hearing or have limited English proficiency,” says Ginger Rhodes, clinic manager. “We can offer health-care certified sign language assistance and support for hundreds of languages in real time, assuring the best care for our patients.”

The clinic will eventually house up to eight primary care providers. The Pavilion location offers access to medical specialties throughout the building, and connected by skybridge to the hospital, easy access to resources including physical and occupational therapy, pharmacy services, diagnostic imaging and lab services. The Milgard Medical Pavilion honors and recognizes the generous support of the Gary E. Milgard Family Foundation.
