Owner Jeffrey Carr, along with mortgage loan officer and marketing manager Abel Hernandez, both U.S. Army veterans, apply their military values to all of their business operations. They are committed to their clients, community and profession.
Jeff, who was awarded a Purple Heart for wounds received in Vietnam flying Cobra helicopter gunships, has been a Gig Harbor resident since moving to the area in 1973 when he attended the University of Puget Sound. Since opening Northwest Mortgage Services, his service and commitment to his clients has stood the test of time. Abel relocated from San Diego, California, in 2014 and joined Jeff at Northwest Mortgage earlier this year.
“We have withstood many market swings over the last 30 years; the most notable was the financial crisis of 2008,” says Jeff. “While many mortgage brokers and bankers folded and closed, we were able to survive the downturn and thrive. The best measure of our success is the referral of the children of our early clients.”

At Northwest Mortgage Services, when a client’s credit scores are below the minimum lending guidelines and a loan is not possible, Jeff and Abel take the time to educate their clients as to the importance of maintaining good credit and how credit scores affect the cost of obtaining a loan. They walk them through the steps to raise the scores so they can purchase a home. “Sometimes this process takes months to complete, but we will do what it takes to help our clients become successful home owners,” adds Jeff.

As U.S. Army veterans, Jeff and Abel are proud to support the Permission To Start Dreaming Foundation, an organization in Gig Harbor that funds healing opportunities for all veterans. They also support Easter Seals Camp Stand By Me in Vaughn, which provides camp experiences and respite care for children and adults with disabilities.
