Hosanna Christian School has been part of Gig Harbor since 1982, and after more than four decades, the school still runs on the same idea it started with. Teachers nurture, love, and pray for each student. Families partner with the school in raising children through academic excellence, biblical truth, and a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

Principal Carol King describes Hosanna as a family more than an institution. The school is independent, not tied to any single church or denomination, which gives it room to welcome students from across the Christian tradition. "We fully embrace the phrase 'In essentials unity, in non-essentials liberty, in all things charity,'" King says, quoting Augustine. Hosanna partners with families regardless of denomination to support the biblical, theological, and spiritual education of every child who enrolls.

Students consistently test ahead of state and national norms, and King credits that success to a combination of confidence and attention. Children are taught early and often that they are valued and deeply loved by their Creator. That belief gives them footing when subjects get hard. Small class sizes allow that care to become personal.

With 12 to 18 students per room, every child receives individualized support, and classmates learn to treat one another like brothers and sisters rather than competitors for a teacher's time.

A school day at Hosanna begins with a warm welcome at the front doors and Christian music playing through the halls. Mornings open with Bible instruction, prayer, and a focus on Christ-centered character development. From there, students move through reading, writing, grammar, math, science, and history, with teachers connecting every lesson back to a biblical worldview. Recess is taken as a whole school, building friendships across grade levels. Chapel, physical education, hands-on learning, and service opportunities round out the week.

Faith and academics are not held in separate rooms at Hosanna. They are woven together. Whether the subject is literature, math, or science, teachers help students see God's hand in creation, truth, wisdom, and human relationships. Students are encouraged to ask questions, think critically, and build a worldview that will hold up well beyond the classroom. The same Christ-centered approach shapes discipline, leadership, relationships, service, and daily decision-making.

The teachers carry that vision. To King, Hosanna’s faculty members are academically rigorous educators and spiritually minded shepherds: selfless, teachable, devoted to Jesus Christ, and Christlike in their interactions with students and parents. "Every teacher at Hosanna sees themselves as a missionary and their classroom as their mission field," King says. That sense of calling is part of why they stay, and part of what parents notice from the first conversation.

When students leave Hosanna, King hopes they leave with more than test scores and transcripts. The goal is character, integrity, compassion, and the confidence to stand firm in their faith. Students should understand that their identity and worth are found in Christ. Whether they go on to higher education, careers, ministry, or service, the prayer is that they lead with wisdom, humility, and Christ-like love.
