Homeownership. This is something most people desire when planning for their future. It is the biggest investment one can make, and it is essential to have the right person who will work with you, and for you, to help you achieve your dream.
Northwest Mortgage Services, Inc. in Gig Harbor, a full-service veteran-owned mortgage broker, first opened its doors on September 15, 1988. This month marks 30 years in business providing financing for residential homes.
Owner Jeffrey Carr, along with mortgage loan officer and marketing manager Abel Hernandez, both U.S. Army veterans, apply their military values to all of their business operations. They are committed to their clients, community and profession.
Jeff, who was awarded a Purple Heart for wounds received in Vietnam flying Cobra helicopter gunships, has been a Gig Harbor resident since moving to the area in 1973 when he attended the University of Puget Sound. Since opening Northwest Mortgage Services, his service and commitment to his clients has stood the test of time. Abel relocated from San Diego, California, in 2014 and joined Jeff at Northwest Mortgage earlier this year.
“We have withstood many market swings over the last 30 years; the most notable was the financial crisis of 2008,” says Jeff. “While many mortgage brokers and bankers folded and closed, we were able to survive the downturn and thrive. The best measure of our success is the referral of the children of our early clients.”
Whether you are buying a home or refinancing, Jeff and Abel will help you realize your dream of homeownership or save you money when getting your new lower monthly payment.
“We feel our success is rooted in our policy of putting the needs of our clients first. Home loan financing is complex and can be costly. We pride ourselves in making sure that our borrowers are fully informed prior to looking for homes,” Jeff says. “We review their financial circumstances and place their loan with the loan program that best meets their needs.”
At Northwest Mortgage Services, when a client’s credit scores are below the minimum lending guidelines and a loan is not possible, Jeff and Abel take the time to educate their clients as to the importance of maintaining good credit and how credit scores affect the cost of obtaining a loan. They walk them through the steps to raise the scores so they can purchase a home. “Sometimes this process takes months to complete, but we will do what it takes to help our clients become successful home owners,” adds Jeff.
When it comes to what the most rewarding aspect of their business is, they agree—helping young home buyers purchase their first home.
As U.S. Army veterans, Jeff and Abel are proud to support the Permission To Start Dreaming Foundation, an organization in Gig Harbor that funds healing opportunities for all veterans. They also support Easter Seals Camp Stand By Me in Vaughn, which provides camp experiences and respite care for children and adults with disabilities.
If you are in the market to refinance or purchase a new home, look no further than Northwest Mortgage Services, where Jeff and Abel are ready to serve you.
"I have to commend Jeff and Abel for their great attention to customer service. We approached them with a concern and they came back to us with different options and walked us through the pros and cons to each one. We made our decision and they guided us through the entire process, and I could not be happier! Thank you guys for your help and advice!" - Wilo C.
